CAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brian Morrell | OF | Hofstra

Sr. - Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading

Morrell batted .563 (9-16) with three doubles, a homer and eight RBI’s in Hofstra’s 3-1 week. The senior recorded three multi-hit games and drove in multiple runs in 3 of the 4 contests. Morrell drove in 9th-inning runs in wins over LIU and St. Peter’s and belted a 3-run homer in Sunday’s win over SPU. He finished the week with a .938 slugging percentage.

CAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Cam Schlittler | RHP | Northeastern

So. - East Walpole, Mass./Walpole

Schlittler scattered three hits over 8.0 shutout innings and struck out five in Northeastern’s 6-1 triumph over No. 4 NC State last Friday. The sophomore right-hander faced the minimum number of batters over the first four frames and induced 14 ground ball outs. He didn’t allow a Wolfpack player past second base in the contest to earn his first victory of the season.

 CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Mike Sirota | OF | Northeastern

Fr. - Broad Channel, N.Y./The Gunnery

Sirota batted .385 (5-13) with two doubles, three runs scored and a team-high four RBI’s in Northeastern’s 3-game sweep at #4 NC State. The outfielder had a hit in all three contests, extending his career-opening hitting streak to 11 games. Sirota went 3-for-3 and drove in three in Friday’s 6-1 victory and leads the Huskies with a .435 batting average for the season.

CONFERENCE NOTES:

NORTHEASTERN SWEEPS NO. 4 NC STATE: Preseason CAA favorite Northeastern swept a three-game series at No. 4 NC State last weekend. The Huskies used a dominant performance from their pitching staff to out-score the Wolfpack 20-6 in the series. Cam Schlittler limited NCSU to three hits over 8.0 shutout innings on Friday and Wyatt Scotti gave up only five hits during 7.0 scoreless frames on Sunday.

LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD: Several CAA teams turned in big offensive performances last week. JMU rolled past VMI 28-4 last Tuesday, which was its highest run total since 2011, and followed with a 19-1 victory over Quinnipiac on Sunday. William & Mary defeated Lafayette 21-9 on Saturday, which was its most runs in a game since 2015. Delaware tallied a season-high for runs in  15-1 triumph over Rider last Friday.

CHARLESTON (7-4, 0-0 CAA): The Cougars picked up a 7-3 road win over Presbyterian last Tuesday, but were swept in a three-game series at High Point. Trotter Harlan was 3-for-4 and drove in two at PC, while Trey Pooser earned his second win of the season after throwing 5.0 shutout innings. CofC failed to score in its first two games at High Point, but Tyler Sorrentino went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple in a 5-4 setback on Sunday. The Cougars, who are 6-0 at Patriots Point this season, open a 9-game homestand this week against Penn. 

DELAWARE (4-6, 0-0 CAA): The Blue Hens went 2-2 last week, highlighted by a pair of wins in a weekend series with Rider. Nick Vera batted .500 (6-12) with two homers, five runs scored and six RBI’s. He was 3-for-4 against #22 Maryland and belted a pair of homers against Rider on Sunday. UD rolled past Rider, 15-1, in Friday’s opener as Dominic Ragazzo was 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI’s and Bryce Greenly was 3-for-4 and drove in three.  Chris Ludman improved to 2-0 after limiting Rider to five hits and an unearned run in 7.0 innings of work. He struck out four.

ELON (6-5, 0-0 CAA): The Phoenix fell 10-2 at Wake Forest last Tuesday, but came home to take two-of-three from Toledo over the weekend. Alex Iadisernia batted .375 with three doubles and five RBI’s for the week and has reached base in all 11 games. He was 3-for-4 and drove in four in Saturday’s 13-2 win over the Rockets. Luke Stephenson tripled, homered and drove in two on Saturday. Brian Edgington moved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.83 after holding UT to one run over 7.2 innings and fanning six on Sunday. Elon hosts No. 3 Notre Dame on Tuesday before playing a weekend series against UNCG.

HOFSTRA (4-3, 0-0 CAA): The Pride went 3-1 last week, including walk-off wins over LIU (6-5) and Saint Peter’s (5-4). Outfielder Brian Morrell batted .563 with three doubles, a homer and eight RBI’s, while Santino Rosso hit .400 and scored four times from the leadoff spot. Anthony D’Onofrio had the walk-off single vs. LIU and Steve Harrington’s 3-run homer in the 9th gave Hofstra the victory over SPU. Brad Camarda held SPU to one run on two hits over 7.0 innings and tied his career-high with seven strikeouts in Sunday’s win. Mike McKenna made two scoreless relief appearances and earned a save on Sunday. 

JAMES MADISON (8-4, 0-0 CAA): The Dukes have won eight of their last nine following a 4-1 week. Mason Dunaway batted .500 (9-18) with three doubles, a triple, two homers and nine RBI’s. He recorded three multi-hit games and three games with three RBI’s. Fenwick Trimble also stayed hot, hitting .333 (7-21) with four doubles and five RBI’s. Chase DeLauter was 4-for-5 with a homer and a career-high eight RBI’s against VMI. JMU tops the CAA with a .326 team batting average and is scoring nearly 10 runs per game. Liam McDonnell won both of his starts last week, giving up six hits over 8.0 shutout innings. He’s 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA this season. JMU visits No. 10 Tennessee for a pair of games this week.

UNCW (7-4, 0-0 CAA): The Seahawks beat #29 Coastal Carolina, 9-4, last Wednesday but went 1-2 in a weekend series at Appalachian State. Brooks Baldwin continued to swing a hot bat, hitting .474 (9-19) with two doubles, a homer and three RBI’s. He’s on a 12-game hitting streak and is batting .458 for the year. Ron Evans was 3-for-5 with two RBI’s and Matt Suggs drove in three against Coastal. Jac Croom was 4-for-8 and knocked in five in the final two games at ASU. Freshman reliever Marty Gair didn’t allow a hit and stuck out eight over 4.0 shutout innings in two appearances. He got a win at ASU on Sunday where his fastball was clocked at 100 MPH. UNCW hosts Kennesaw State this weekend.

NORTHEASTERN (6-5, 0-0 CAA): The Huskies had an impressive three-game sweep of No. 4 NC State, outscoring the Wolfpack 20-6. NU’s pitching was dominant as Cam Schlittler gave up just three hits over 8.0 shutout innings in a 6-1 win on Friday and Wyatt Scotti scattered five hits over 7.0 scoreless frames in Sunday’s 6-0 victory. Sebastian Keane didn’t allow an earned run in 6.0 innings on Saturday. Offensively, Luke Beckstein batted .600 (6-10) in the series with three RBI’s, including a 3-for-4 effort on Saturday. Mike Sirota hit .385 (5-13) with two doubles and a team-best four RBI’s and leads the Huskies with a .435 average for the season. NU heads back to the ACC this weekend for a three-game series at Clemson

TOWSON (2-10, 0-0 CAA): The Tigers were edged 8-7 at George Washington last Tuesday and then dropped three at UNCG over the weekend. Elijah Dickerson batted .412 (7-17) for the week with a double, triple, homer and five RBI’s. He had a pair of three-hit games and drove in three in Sunday’s finale at UNCG. Freshman Jordan Peyton recorded a hit in all four contests and batted .467 (7-15) for the week. Nolan Bolt gave up just one hit over 4.1 scoreless innings of relief at GW. Towson opens an eight-game homestand with UMBC on Tuesday before a weekend series against Fairleigh Dickinson. 

WILLIAM & MARY (5-3, 0-0 CAA): The Tribe split four games last week, bouncing back from shutout losses to Virginia and Rutgers to defeat Lafayette (21-9) and Princeton (9-6). Cole Ragone went 5-for-9 with 10 RBI’s in the two wins and tied a program record by driving in eight against Lafayette. Half of those came on a grand slam to help W&M score its most runs in a game since 2015. Max Winters was 3-for-4 with six RBI’s and four runs scored against Lafayette. Casey Green allowed just one run over 5.0 innings and Zach Tsakounis followed with 4.0 shutout frames in a tough 1-0 setback to Rutgers on Friday. W&M hosts Georgetown before a three-game weekend trip to Georgia Southern.
