Some of the collegiate pitchers who participated in the recent 2025 College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, eventually will return to the mound there as part of the Texas Rangers organization or to play against them.
For the majority of the players, however, their time at the home of the 2023 World Series champions will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and something they’ll tell stories about when they’re having a nostalgic look back on their lives.
During the three weeks of college action at the 40,000-seat GLF, more than a dozen teams took the field to play over 20 games, and the fans – both in-person and at home watching on FloCollege – were treated to some incredible moments.

The season-opening schedule at Globe Life Field included the Shriners Children’s College Showdown (Feb. 14-16), Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 2 (Feb. 21-23) and Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 3 (Feb. 28-March 2).
The midweek games were scheduled for Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.
From the first game of the first day of the season, the athletes looked like they already were in midseason form.
Here, we’ll take a look at some of the pitchers who got our attention while on the mound in Texas (in no particular order):
Luke Harrison, Texas
After starting the 2025 season with an extra-innings loss to Louisville, the Texas Longhorns needed some redemption, and they took out their disappointment on Ole Miss.
Redshirt junior left-hander Luke Harrison, who only made two previous starts for UT, earned the opportunity to help new head coach Jim Schlossnagle get his first win with Texas, and he delivered.
Harrison went a career-high 6 1/3 innings in Texas’ seven-inning blowout of Ole Miss on Feb. 15.
The Longhorns were ahead 7-0 after four innings, and Harrison was able to protect that lead before departing. UT went on to score three more in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 10-0 victory.
On the way to his first win of the year, Harrison gave up zero runs on two hits, struck out six, hit two batters and walked one.
Texas hasn’t lost since. The Longhorns are 9-1 through March 2 and will bring a nine-game winning streak into their meeting with Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Tuesday night.

Will McCausland, Ole Miss
Sure, if you just take a quick look at the stats, your eyes probably wouldn’t stop on Will McCausland and his performance against Clemson on Feb. 16.
The game was the second in a row for Ole Miss that ended after seven innings, but this time, the Rebels were on the winning end of things, a 15-5 victory over the Tigers.
McCausland was the third pitcher of the game for Ole Miss, entering in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Rebels ahead 10-4.
The junior right-hander, a transfer from Saint Joseph’s, was on autopilot the rest of the way, collecting his first win as a Rebel with 3 2/3 innings of work, which included one run on three hits, eight strikeouts and a walk.
That’s right, eight strikeouts, including three in the sixth inning and three in the seventh, among the 11 outs he recorded.
He faced 15 batters in the minimal-pressure situation, and if he can clean up his control (he had the walk and two wild pitches), he’ll be a huge asset for Ole Miss in the tough Southeastern conference.
Ethan Darden, Clemson
Clemson junior left-hander Ethan Darden picked up his first win of the 2025 during the Shriners Children’s College Baseball Showdown, but that was just a stepping stone.
He has since added a win against South Carolina (March 1), and his performance in that 5-1 victory earned him ACC Pitcher of the Week honors, which was announced Monday.
But we’re not here to talk about that. This is about the CBS in Arlington to kick off the new season.
In Clemson’s 16-5 win over Arizona on Feb. 15, the Tigers scored seven runs in the top of the first inning to take any pressure off Darden before he took the mound in the bottom half of the inning.
He pitched four scoreless innings for Clemson, giving up two hits, while striking out six and walking one. He was the first of five Clemson pitchers on the day.
The momentum for Darden has continued, as he’s now 2-0 with a 1.06 ERA in 17 innings over three appearances. He has 15 strikeouts on the season, too.
Jacob Frost & Blake Dean, Kansas State
This lefty-righty duo stepped up for Kansas State to make sure the Wildcats’ trip to the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 2 turned out better than their season-opening experience at the Battle at the Beach event in South Carolina.
Kansas State arrived in Arlington after a 1-4 start to the 2025 season, and Frost and Dean helped kick off a perfect weekend at Globe Life Field that began with a 3-2 upset of No. 5-ranked Arkansas.
Frost, a senior southpaw, got the start and went 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits, while striking out a career-high six batters and walking two.
Unfortunately, along with being remembered for sharing in the historic win over the Razorbacks, Frost will be part of a campfire story for Wehiwa and Kuhio Aloy, brothers who each hit solo home runs off Frost in the sixth inning before he left the game.
The memorable feat tied the game at 2-2 and opened the door for Dean to do his part for the Wildcats.
Read more about the Aloy brothers and the other top hitters across the three weeks in Arlington.
Dean, a sophomore, finished the sixth inning without any further damage and protected the 3-2 lead Kansas State took in the top of the seventh inning.
The 2024 Big 12 All-Freshman Team honoree pitched 3 2/3 innings. He gave up three hits but kept Arkansas from scoring, and he struck out five. He picked up the win.
Kansas State went on to defeat Michigan (5-1) and TCU (10-2) to complete the perfect weekend in the Lone Star State.

Lincoln Sheffield, Kansas State
Not to be outdone by his teammates who got the momentum rolling for Kansas State, Lincoln Sheffield closed the weekend in Arlington with a performance worthy of Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week honors.
The junior left-hander, a transfer from Hinds Community College, also was named the FloSports Player of the Game for tossing seven stellar innings in Kansas State’s 10-2 win over No. 22 TCU on Feb. 23.
Sheffield carried a two-hitter into the seventh inning, while also retiring nine consecutive batters at one point.
In seven full innings, he gave up one run on five hits, while striking out eight, walking one and throwing one wild pitch. The victory was his first as a Wildcat, following a loss to Coastal Carolina on Feb. 17.
Tommy LaPour, TCU
Sometimes, what the scoreboard says at the end of the game doesn’t always reflect all the things that could’ve happened along the way.
That’s definitely true for TCU sophomore right-hander Tommy LaPour, who gave six full innings for the Horned Frogs against No. 5 Arkansas on Feb. 22, giving up two runs on two hits, while striking out five and walking two.
On many days of the season, that would’ve been a sparkling performance that gives his team the upper hand. And it temporarily did, as TCU was leading 1-0 when LaPour left the game with no outs in the seventh inning.
Unfortunately, the reason he left was because he’d just walked two batters to start the inning.
When Arkansas pinch hitter Kuhio Aloy decided he really liked the spotlight and plated both runners with a double to left field, LaPour ultimately was charged with those runs and ended up taking the loss when the Razorbacks won the game 2-1.
So, why are we talking about LaPour?
Well, he threw 52 of his 87 pitches for strikes. He struck out four of the first five batters he faced.
Oh, and prior to the leadoff walk in the seventh inning, he’d retired 11 consecutive batters on what is emerging as one of the top offenses in the country.
Zach Root, Arkansas
Obviously, it would have to take a rockin’ performance to out-duel what Tommy LaPour did for TCU in six innings against Arkansas.
Enter junior lefty Zach Root, who may not have factored in the final decision, but he was a huge factor keeping things manageable until the Razorbacks could break through.
Root, a transfer from East Carolina, went five innings, giving up one earned run on two hits, while striking out 10. Again, a spectacular performance, but the wrong place at the wrong time.
In the end, he did the heavy lifting, while Landon Beidelschies offered 2 2/3 innings to claim the win, and Christian Foutch handled the final 1 1/3 innings to earn his first save of the year.
Christian Chatterton, Auburn
Freshman right-hander Christian Chatterton helped Auburn complete a perfect weekend at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota Weekend 3, extend its winning streak to 10 games and improve to 11-1 on the season.
Oh, but he also had to have the maturity to settle down after giving up a leadoff home run to Baylor sophomore Jack Little.
Chatterton went on to pitch five innings, giving up one run on two hits, while striking out nine and walking two. He earned the victory and now is 1-0 on the season.
The 1-0 deficit was short-lived, as the Tigers rallied for two runs of their own in the top of the second inning and two more in the third. Auburn won the contest 7-4, despite three runs from the Bears in the final two innings.
For the weekend, Auburn defeated Ohio State (13-0), Oregon State (8-7) and then Baylor.
