Clemson Baseball Names to Know
Tristan Bissetta
Playing a limited role as a freshman in 2023, Tristan Bissetta broke out with more opportunities in 2024. The outfielder hit just under .300 in 141 at-bats, slugged .511, and drove in 34 runs.
Bissetta continued his ascent in summer league play with four home runs and 11 runs driven in 45 at-bats with the Cape Cod League’s Bourne Braves.
Cam Cannarella
After a sensational sophomore season, outfielder Cam Cannarella could play his way into being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 MLB draft.
Cannarella hit .337 in 246 at-bats a season ago, showcasing what MLB.com describes as “some of the best bat-to-ball skills” of any 2025 prospect. Not only is Cannarella adept at making contact, but he can place hits all around the field, making him an especially dangerous weapon for the Tigers.
Luke Gaffney
Last season at Purdue, first baseman and catcher Luke Gaffney earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year for his astounding .359 average in 209 at-bats. He also slugged .646 and put up a 1.095 OPS with 13 home runs.
Baseball America touted Gaffney as a “middle of the order” addition to the Clemson lineup. The 2024 Freshman All-American could be more than just a capable plug-in at clean-up, though; the Shriners Children’s Showdown could be the launching point to an All-ACC kind of season for the newcomer.
Aidan Knaak
Aidan Knaak was an instant impact performer in his first year with Clemson. The righty pitched 83 ⅓ innings in 15 starts, compiling a 3.35 ERA and garnering 1st Team All-ACC.
Knaak struck out 108 batters while limiting his walks to 29. He finished his freshman campaign with a few of his best outings, including an 11-strikeout, six-inning shutout of Boston College to close out ACC play and six innings in an NCAA Tournament win over Coastal Carolina.
Jarren Purify
Working his way into the starting second base role as a freshman, Jarren Purify had an impressive debut campaign both defensively and on the base paths.
Purify swiped a team-leading 11 bases on 13 attempts in 2024, capitalizing on his opportunities when getting aboard. Purify only needed six at-bats to swipe a bag in this past summer’s Northwoods League.
Clemson’s Shriners Children’s Classic Opponents
Arizona
Winner of the last Pac-12 Conference championship before the league’s splintering, Arizona begins its move to the top-heavy Big 12 hoping to make a splash at Globe Life Field.
The Wildcats suffered an early exit from the NCAA Tournament, but reload for 2025 with key contributors back in the fold.
Oklahoma State
Welcoming back a veteran roster that includes powerhouse hitter Nolan Schubart and top 60-ranked MLB draft prospect pitcher Gabe Davis, Oklahoma State heads into 2025 with College World Series aspirations.
The Cowboys went 42-19 in 2024 before bowing out of the NCAA Tournament in a dramatic, three-game set with Florida.
Ole Miss
After its 2022 run to the College World Series, Ole Miss endured a pair of disappointing seasons in 2023 and 2024. The Rebels look to bounce back in 2025 with Luke Hill, Will Furniss and Riley Maddox among some of the key contributors returning.
Hill hit .291 and stole 12 bases in 2024, while Furniss’ nine home runs led the way among returning Rebels. Maddox, a right-handed pitcher, worked 69 innings during which he struck out 53.
