William Schmidt Announces He's Going To LSU Baseball Ahead of MLB Draft

One of the best high school prospects in the 2024 MLB Draft appears likely to play for LSU Baseball instead MLB next year.

William Schmidt posted on social media that he is "Callin Baton Rouge" as the No. 21-ranked prospect on the FloBaseball composite rankings signaled hours before the MLB Draft that he intends to play college baseball. 

The best prep right-handed pitcher in the draft class has a 70-grade curveball, one of the best in the draft class and at 6-foot-4, 180 pounds was projected to be drafted in the first round. 

The MLB Draft begins at 7 p.m. EST on July 14. Schmidt posted his message hour before it started and now the question is if a team will still draft him and try to sign him above slot value. In the last mock draft, we had the Los Angeles Dodgers selecting the 18-year-old.

When Is The 2024 MLB Draft?

The MLB Draft is July 14-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. Coverage on MLB TV will begin at 7 p.m. EST on July 14 and noon on July 15 and 16th.

What Channel Is The MLB Draft On?

The MLB Draft will be on MLB Network. The first round will be on both MLB Network and ESPN.
