Some of the standouts from the Coastal Athletic Association diamonds take the next big step in their baseball journeys with the 2024 MLB draft. This year's class of draft-eligible prospects from the CAA include some of the most proficient power-hitters in the college ranks during the past season and promising pitchers.

Get to know five of the most intriguing 2024 MLB draft prospects coming out of the Coastal.

Grant Knipp, C - Campbell 

A standout performance at the MLB draft combine presumably helped Grant Knipp's status immensely after he dealt with an injury in Campbell's 2024 campaign. 

Knipp batted .402 for the Camels, earning All-CAA honors in the Camels' debut season as members of the conference. He also belted 18 home runs — a number that would have assuredly been much higher without the hamstring injury that cost him about a month of the season. 

Among the qualities that Knipp demonstrated to wow scouts last month, MLB.com reported, was his 111.5 exit velocity — fourth-best among all participants at the combine.  

Prep Baseball Report tab Knipp just beyond the top 100 of all 2024 prospects, making him a potential third-rounder. His impressive showing in Phoenix could put Knipp solidly in that third round. 

Nate Knowles, RHP - William & Mary

A sensational 2024 that needed him All-American honors propelled Nate Knowles into the MLB draft combine. 

Knowles delivered a 2.48 ERA in 80 innings pitched last collegiate season and struck out 112 batters. He punched out at least in 16 appearances, including a 12-strikeout effort against Towson late in the campaign. 

MLB.com called Knowles a potential Major League starter thanks to his ability to stay consistently in the strike zone with a variety of pitches. 

Tyler MacGregor, 1B - Northeastern 

Coming off a 2024 in which he earned All-American recognition, Tyler MacGregor has plenty of momentum heading into the MLB draft. 

MacGregor led Northeastern with a whopping .402 batting average, 19 home runs, a .786 slugging percentage, and 1.270 OPS. His 15 steals were third among all Huskies, trailing only Jack Goodman and fellow MLB draft prospect Mike Sirota. 

MacGregor's outstanding offensive campaign catapulted him into the conversation among the top 20 first baseman available in this draft class. He's something of a sleeper pick based on assorted projections, but that means the organization selecting him could be getting a true gem in the middle rounds. 

Cole Mathis, 1B - Charleston  

Cole Mathis embarked on the 2024 college baseball season, which is projected to be the highest draft pick in Charleston history. His unique two-way game makes Mathis a consensus top-100 prospect in the 2024 class, potentially going in the early portion of the third round. 

Mathis is coming off a career-best season at the plate. he hit .335 for the Cougars, homered 14 times and rove in 57 runs, and boasted an OPS of 1.122. 

His outstanding spring at Charleston built off of a head-turning showing in the Cape Cod League last summer, during which Mathis batted .318 and slugged .667 with 11 home runs for the Cotuit Kettleers. 

On the mound, Mathis made nine appearances totaling 20 1/3 innings for Cotuit. He was not part of the Charleston pitching rotation in the spring, though in 2023 he produced a 3.45 ERA with 52 strikeouts over 60 innings of work. 

Mike Sirota, OF - Northeastern 

Projections for the Northeastern All-America outfielder Mike Sirota have him pegged firmly as a second-round talent. As the No. 50 overall prospect per MLB.com, Sirota would stay close to the NU campus as a Boston Red Sox selection. 

Sirota's already left an indelible impression on the Beantown baseball scene. He leaves Northeastern with multiple All-American honors to his name, he set the program's single-season runs scored and walks drawn marks, and paced the Huskies to both a 2023 NCAA Tournament appearance and a 2024 CAA regular-season championship. 

Sirota hit .324 over 547 at-bats with 111 RBI, 29 home runs — including 18 in 2023 — and a .576 career slugging percentage. He also stole 48 bases in his time at Northeastern, with 19 in both 2023 and 2024. 

While it may not endear him to Boston baseball hardcores, Sirota takes inspiration from a New York Yankee: His relative and a 1974 Hall of Fame inductee Whitey Ford.  

When Is The 2024 MLB Draft?

The MLB Draft is July 14-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. Coverage on MLB TV will begin at 5 p.m. EST on July 14 and noon on July 15 and 16th.
