Buies Creek, North Carolina has turned from a sleepy place south of Raleigh to a mid-major baseball fortress over the past decade-plus, and now another major-conference squad is making the trip down to test their might against the Fighting Camels on their home diamond.

No. 6-ranked (as of the most recent D1baseball.com poll) Duke will pay a visit to Jim Perry Stadium on the Campbell campus for a nonconference tussle at 6 p.m. (ET) Tuesday, with the Blue Devils — who were one win away from their first College World Series trip since 1961 last season — gunning for a possible trip to Omaha by building up their schedule outside of conference play. The game will be streamed live and exclusively on FloBaseball.

Occasional midweek opponents (Duke and Campbell have met 46 times since 1963), the Blue Devils got the upper hand in their first meeting of the season on March 26 in Durham, winning 11-1 — a key mark that Duke reached to win it, considering that it’s 12-1 on the season when scoring at least 10 runs. However, the Camels by no means ever back down from a challenge, and since the beginning of last season, Campbell holds a winning record (7-6) against ranked foes.

Duke’s visit is part of a four-game home stretch for the Camels as they’ll take two days off before welcoming Charleston to town for a three-game CAA series starting Friday. All games in that series will also be streamed live and exclusively on FloBaseball.

Player to Watch: Ben Miller, 1B, Duke

With all due respect to recent Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week and star closer Charlie Beilenson (nine saves as of Monday night) and impressive rookie AJ Gracia (.308 average, 10 home runs, 42 RBIs), holding the third-best batting average in the entire country as of this writing will get you a spot in this article as a player to watch.

An offseason grad transfer from Penn, Miller was a great player with the Quakers as he was a First Team All-Ivy League selection in 2022, but he was nothing otherworldly as his best batting average in a season was .330 during his junior year. Through 36 games played in 2024, Miller — while playing a higher standard of competition in the ACC — is eclipsing his previous best batting average by over 100 points. Only Georgia superstar Charlie Condon and Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Edwin Delacruz are batting at a better clip than Miller’s .443, with the hometown kid from Durham, North Carolina entering Tuesday on a 17-game hitting streak.

In his first matchup of the season against Campbell, Miller was a triple shy of the cycle on a three-hit day with three RBIs, setting him up for potentially a potent day in Buies Creek.
