Northeastern baseball, despite losing an extremely close extra-innings game against Kansas State less than 24 hours ago, must immediately turn their attention to UNCW.

Currently, the Seahawks and the Huskies sit No. 1 and No. 2 in the CAA conference standings, and while there is a 30-point divide in RPI (Northeastern at No. 36, UNCW at No. 64) both teams will certainly see this series as a must-win. The top two finishers by conference record in the regular season receive a crucial first-round bye in the CAA Baseball Tournament, aiding their goal of the automatic bid that comes with winning the conference championship.

Echoes of last season's CAA championship already seem to be leaking into the upcoming matchup. UNC Wilmington was granted that automatic bid in 2023 after defeating Northeastern twice in a row, even with the Huskies having nearly 10 more wins than the Seahawks by the time the post-season began.

The Seahawks were ousted after consecutive losses in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Northeastern received an at-large bid and also lost both of their games.
