Big 12 Baseball 2024 Predictions And Preview
West Virginia Baseball has the game's best player, JJ Wetherholt, while TCU Baseball is picked to win. Here's a Big 12 Baseball preview.
It’ll be a rare and singular year of college baseball in the Big 12 in 2024.
The league welcomes four new teams, Cincinnati, Central Florida, BYU and Houston, but is also playing its final season with the league’s most successful program, Texas Baseball, and Oklahoma. They are heading to the SEC, which is getting even stronger in 2025.
But a team that isn’t new and not going anywhere, TCU Baseball, is the favorite to win the league and the highest ranked team in the league.

The Big 12 also has the game’s top player in JJ Wetherholt, who is the consensus top draft-eligible player entering in the season. Wetherholt, a shortstop, is the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year after slashing 449/.517/.782 in 2023.
The Big 12 includes three ranked teams in various polls, and that includes Texas Tech Baseball, which could surge in the rankings with a win on Feb.16 when they face No.8 Tennessee Baseball at the College Baseball Showdown.

TCU Baseball, who headlines the final weekend of the College Baseball Showdown in March, is the favorite to win the league. The Horned Frogs received 11 first-place votes. Texas received two.

JJ Wetherhold, Baseball America and MLB.com's No.1 prospect in the 2024 MLB Draft, was the preseason player of the year pick. The West Virginia baseball star was a unanimous pick.
Texas’ Lebarron Johnson Jr. was Preseason Pitcher of the Year, while TCU two-way player Payton Tolle was named Preseason Newcomer of the Year and Texas outfielder Will Gasparino was tabbed Preseason Freshman of the Year.
