Northeastern Baseball Schedule 2024: What To Know

Northeastern baseball reached historic heights a season ago, and the Huskies' breakout in 2023 may only be the beginning.

Northeastern heads into the 2024 season having posted winning records in each of the last three seasons, peaking a season ago.

With a number of the team's leading contributors returning, Northeastern is a team to watch on the road to Omaha and the College World Series.

Before the Huskies begin their pursuit of championship hardware, get to know more about the 2024 Northeastern baseball team.

How Did Northeastern Baseball Do In 2023?

Northeastern baseball won more than 30 games in three of the four full seasons ahead of the 2023 campaign. That impressive stretch was only a warm-up for the Huskies, who surged to a program-record 44 wins a season ago.

The Huskies finished 44-16, including 20-10 in the Coastal Athletic Association. Despite falling to UNC Wilmington in a classic at the CAA Championship, Northeastern landed an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Losses to Maryland and George Mason cut the Huskies' postseason short.

Who Coaches Northeastern Baseball?

Mike Glavine is the Northeastern baseball head coach, a post he's held since 2015.

The brother of Tom Glavine, Mike Glavine returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach in 2007. Upon ascending to head coach in 2015, Glavine made an impression quickly with a 31-27 finish in 2016 and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2018.

Glavine has coached Northeastern to a trio of first-place finishes in the CAA and three NCAA Tournaments; two in the last three seasons.

Has Northeastern Ever Won The College World Series?

No, Northeastern has never won the College World Series.

The Huskies first reached the NCAA Tournament in 1964. In 1966, they went on their only run to the College World Series.

Northeastern has been to the postseason 10 times, including 2018, 2021 and 2023 under Glavine's direction.

Notable Returning Players

Mike Sirota, CF

Mike Sirota was a 16th-round selection of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021. Expect him to be drafted much, much earlier in 2024. He's projected as a potential top-10 prospect after steadily building up his profile with an All-American campaign for Northeastern in 2023.

Sirota hit .344 a season ago with 18 home runs, 54 RBIs, a .674 slugging percentage and 19 stolen bases. The multifaceted offensive dynamo is one of the most exciting players in the country.

Aiven Cabral, RHP

A right-handed starter, Aiven Cabral burst onto the scene with a 2.26 ERA in his debut campaign, tops in the CAA and good for Freshman All-America honors.

The local product of St. Mary's High School in Lynn, Massachusetts, topped the conference with a 9-4 record and a ratio of nearly six strikeouts to every walk.

Notable Newcomers

Jack Bowery, LHP

Marist transfer Jack Bowery had an impressive debut season with a 4.91 ERA, 4-1 record and 38 strikeouts in 44 innings of work.

Bowery endured a slight sophomore slump with an 8.78 ERA, but he still struck out 49 over 54 1/3 innings.

Aidan Tucker, RHP

Aidan Tucker went 11-1 over his career for Division III Tufts, including in 2023 when he posted a 2.84 ERA.

The 6-foot-3 graduate transfer had an impressive turn at the New England Collegiate Baseball League, going 4-0 with a 2.51 ERA for the Vermont Mountaineers.
