As part of a recently started weekly look at the many independent baseball leagues across the country covered and streamed on this platform, FloBaseball’s Player of the Week series highlights the best of the best in independent ball.

With a five-game hitting streak through June 28, Tristan Peterson of the Frontier League's Washington Wild Things put together a wildly impressive stretch. But that only scratches the surface of Peterson's big-time play in the final week of June 2023.

The Wild Things infielder had multiple hits in four of the five games over his streak from June 23-28, including a pair of three-hit outings against the Gateway Grizzlies and New York Boulders.

Career Look-Back

No stranger to the Frontier League, Peterson arrived in Washington last summer and made an immediate impact. He hit .302 in 106 at-bats and homered six times—a benchmark he surpassed in 2023 in his return to the Wild Things.

Peterson also spent time in the Pioneer League last season with the Billings Mustangs

Before embarking on his budding professional career, Peterson—an All-Arizona selection while at Canyon del Oro High School in Tucson—initially landed at Kansas State. He transferred closer to home at New Mexico State and in his one full season as an Aggie (2019), hit .400.

Peterson transferred after the COVID-19-impacted season to Washington State, where he hit .289 and homered seven times for the Pac-12's Cougars.

A versatile defender, Peterson played both first base and catcher for New Mexico State and Washington State.

Standout Performances

No one anywhere in baseball has been as hot over the past week as Tristan Peterson. His five-game hitting streak produced 11 total hits including the six combined over his two three-hit outings vs. Gateway and New York.

Peterson went 11-of-20 overall for a whopping .550 average and drove in 10 runs. Of his 11 hits, four were home runs—an already impressive statistic made all the more season that Peterson went yard in 4-of-5 games.

Half of Peterson's homers for the campaign came over the past week. Likewise, his RBI for 2023 jumped to 21 with the impressive work put in at the dish to close out the month.
