Independent baseball saw plenty of noteworthy movement in the week ending June 16, including the Frontier League's New Jersey Jackals activating Phil Ervin from the injured list. 

Ervin, sidelined since last playing May 17, returned to the Jackals lineup on June 13 and immediately contributed to a sweep of the Gateway Grizzlies. He hit went 5-of-15 at the plate for the series, and has hit in every Frontier League contest in which he's appeared through action June 15. 

Bringing considerable Major League experience to the Jackals lineup—he played 94 games and hit .271 for the Cincinnati Reds in 2019, and most recently played for the Seattle— Ervin adds to the winning dynamic New Jersey's put together in 2023. The Jackals have a 10-game winning streak going since June 4.

In the Atlantic League, the Long Island Ducks bid farewell for now to shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria. Hechavarria hit .297 in 145 at-bats for the Ducks with seven home runs, piquing the interest of the Kansas City Royals in the process. 

Hechavarria joining the Royals marks his return to the Major League for the first time since 2020, when he played 63 games for the Atlanta Braves.
