Former New York Mets, Washington Nationals star Daniel Murphy signs contract with Los Angeles Angels. Murphy to report to Salt Lake Bees.
The major league comeback is nearly complete for 38-year-old Daniel Murphy.
Three-time Major League Baseball All-Star signed with the Long Island Ducks this spring as he attempts to return to the MLB for the first time since 2020.
On June 12, the Ducks announced that Murphy had agreed to a contract with the Los Angeles Angels.

Murphy, who made a name for himself with the New York Mets before heading to the Washington Nationals, finished second in National League MVP voting in 2016.
Murphy hasn't played in the big leagues since the Colorado Rockies bought out the remainder of his contract in 2021 that he originally signed with the Nationals in 2016.

Murphy excelled with the Ducks.
He hit .331, sixth in the league over 37 games. He had 47 hits and had the 10-best on-base percentage in the Atlantic League. He leaves Long Island after driving in 19 RBI, scoring 20 runs, and having had a 16-game hitting streak from May 16- June 1.

Murphy will report to Triple-A to play for the Salt Lake Bees. He was signed by the Angels, but he has not been placed on the 40-man roster. Murphy, an infielder, can play multiple spots on the in-field.
