Coker’s Kody Hanna was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Baseball Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne’s Andrew Patrick was named Varsity Gems Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during Week 8 of the 2023 season, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Hanna, a junior first baseman from Hemingway, South Carolina, led the Cobras to a 4-1 record last week with a SAC series sweep of Emory & Henry. 

He batted .476 with five home runs, a double, seven runs scored, 13 RBIs and a stolen base. 

Hanna belted three of his home runs in Game 1 of the Cobras’ series against Emory & Henry, tying a Coker single-game record. 

He finished the week with a .560 on-base percentage and 1.238 slugging percentage.

Patrick, a senior right-hander from Catawba, North Carolina, was nearly untouchable in his lone outing of the week, leading the Bears to a 4-0 win over Mars Hill. 

He threw seven innings to earn the win, allowing no runs on four hits, with 12 strikeouts and just one walk.
