Wingate’s Seaver King was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Baseball Player of the Week, while Tusculum’s Seth Willis was named Varsity Gems Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during Week 3 of the 2023 season, the conference office announced Tuesday.

King, a sophomore infielder from Athens, Georgia, led the No. 24 Bulldogs to a 4-1 record last week, including a four-game sweep of Nova Southeastern. 

He batted .636 for the week, with three home runs, three doubles, a triple, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored. 

He hit for the cycle in Game 1 of Wingate’s series against Nova Southeastern. He had a stolen base and four runs scored. 

King finished the week with a .680 on-base percentage and a 1.273 slugging percentage, collecting at least two hits in all five games.

Willis, a junior right-hander from Vale, North Carolina, threw the first no-hitter in Tusculum history last week in a 23-0 win over Davis & Elkins. 

Willis had 13 strikeouts and allowed just one baserunner, a walk in the second inning, on his way to a seven-inning complete-game no-hitter.
