Missouri Baseball Roster Rebuilt As Tigers Go To College Baseball Showdown
The Missouri Baseball Schedule includes a trip to the College Baseball Showdown as the Tigers hope to build momentum with their new roster before SEC play.
The Missouri Baseball team is looking to build off a 28-23 season in 2022, but it won’t be easy as the Tigers prepare for the gauntlet that is the Southeastern Conference season.
It’s hard to argue that the SEC isn’t the most dominant baseball conference as six teams—not all of them the same combination—find themselves in the preseason top-10 rankings.
Missouri is not in that group of teams.
The Tigers were 18-3 outside the SEC in 2022, but finished 10-20 in a conference that featured four programs that reached the College World Series, including the eventual champion, Ole Miss.
With three of the sport's top title contenders in LSU, Tennessee and Florida in the SEC, Missouri won’t have it any easier in 2023.
However, Missouri will have a chance to show it has improved over the offseason early in the season as the Tigers travel to the College Baseball Showdown to begin the year.
Here’s a look at the Missouri Baseball team entering the 2023 season.

Missouri Baseball Roster Rebuilt for 2023
Missouri coach Steve Bieser said the Tiger’s roster went through a 50 percent change in the lineup and a 60 percent change in the pitching staff this offseason. In the era of Name/Image/Likeness, Missouri will welcome transfers from Arkansas, LSU, Oklahoma, Arizona and Nebraska.
“We’re going to be about 50 percent new on our lineups, 60 percent new in our pitching staff, so we do have a lot of influx of transfers and new guys coming into the program," Bieser said on Feb. 6 at a College Baseball Showdown press conference.
Dylan Leach (Arkansas) and Jacob Hasty (LSU) transferred within the SEC to Missouri. Hasty, a lefty, pitched in 39 games for the Tigers from 2020-2022 and pitched out of the bullpen for LSU in 2022. He made 13 appearances with a 2-1 record with a 3.55 ERA in 25.1 innings.

Arkansas Baseball transfer Dylan Leach to have big role for Mizzou
Leach, a junior, started 16 games for the Razorbacks, who made the College World Series in 2022. Leach was a standout defender behind the plate with a .988 fielding percentage and committed just two errors in 169 tries.
“He’s kind of come in and established himself as a leader,” Bieser said.
“He’s got the experience from being there in Arkansas (and) the College World Series and being in that type of venue. He’s been outstanding for us and really meshing in with an entirely new group.
“We’re happy he’s here and he’s doing really well.”

Missouri Baseball's New Pitching Coach Ricky Meinhold
Missouri made a change at pitching coach after the 2022 season, hiring Ricky Meinhold to guide the hurlers.
Meinhold served as the director of pitching for the Lotte Giants in the Korea Baseball Organization but also has coaching experience at the Major League Baseball level with the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets. This is his first college job since 2014, when he spent from 2011-2014 coaching at Coker College.
Meinhold replaces Mitch Plassmeyer, who left after one season to become the minor league pitching coordinator with the Baltimore Orioles. Meinhold is the fourth pitching coach for the Tigers since 2020.
Who Is Missouri Baseball Coach Steve Bieser
Bieser became the Missouri coach in 2017 after being the head coach of Southeast Missouri from 2013-2016. Bieser is 158-131-1 at Missouri and won more games in his first three seasons with the Tigers than any coach in program history (104).
But SEC play has been difficult for Bieser, who has coached in the state of Missouri his whole career and played at Southeast Missouri. Bieser is just 57-92-1 in SEC play.
Before he started coaching, Bieser spent 13 years in professional baseball, spending the bulk of that time in Triple-A but made his Major League debut in 1997 with the New York Mets and played in 60 career games with the Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates. As a member of the St. Louis Cardinals organization, Bieser helped the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds win the Triple-A World Series in 2000 before retiring.
